Visitor numbers exceeded 2007, with a 7% increase, despite the fair having been one day shorter. Stand numbers increased from 20 in 2007, to 31 in 2008. And exhibition area increased by 300 m2. An excellent set of figures that confirm the Gipúzcoa fair’s robust state of health.
Sunday was the day with most visitors, congregating 4,000 people. New proposals related to nautical and aquatic sports in the Urexpo salon, held in parallel for the first time at Mendiexpo, were amongst activities yielding the highest visitor numbers. Notable amongst these, were activities in the pool, installed in the external Ficoba exhibition space, where visitors could undergo diving “baptisms” and learn a diverse range of canoeing techniques. Not to forget the traditional excellent public reception to screenings and conferences from renowned mountaineers who participated at Mendiexpo. It is also worth highlighting the favourable public response to “burduntzi”. In total almost 300 kilos of Eusko Label beef where shared out, donated by the Fundación Kalitatea.
Exhibitors too have also provided extremely positive feedback, and expressed their satisfaction with the decision to cut the duration of the fair to two days, rather than the three days of previous editions, having seen that - far from leading to a reduction in visitor numbers - the ascending number of visitors to Mendiexpo has continued its trend.
Regarding visitor origin, Mendiexpo has again confirmed its capacity to attract visitors from both inside and outside of Gipúzcoa. Although the majority of attendees were from Gipúzcoa (72% of the total) many also came from Biscay, Alava, Navarre and Iparralde. Regarding the distribution of visitors inside Gipúzcoa, 27% were from Irun and Hondarribia, 35% from Donostialdea and 37 % from the rest of the territory.
